If there’s one couple in the world of F1 I don’t see breaking up, it’s Lily and Alex. They just seem to complement each others vibe so well even though Lily had to get used to Alex’s dry sense of humor in the beginning.
The story on how they met sure isn’t traditional but it’s a cool one to tell. A friend actually recommended Lily watch Drive to Survive specifically to help her break out of her golf slump by seeing how other high pressure athletes handle stress. While watching, Lily noticed Alex Albon, who was a rookie in Formula 1 that year and decided to follow him and a few other drivers on Instagram. Around the same time, Alex had started getting into golf and noticed Lily was a professional player. He followed her back
Their first date was a golf date! After meeting in person in Los Angeles.
The reason they work so well comes down to mutual respect. Both Alex and Lily broke into the elite levels of their sports around the same time. They know what it feels like to have a rough weekend broadcast to millions of people, and they’re aware of the mental toll that takes.
When Alex lost his Red Bull seat at the end of 2020, Lily was the one helping him navigate the setback. When Lily deals with the stress of the LPGA tour, Alex gets it. Typically when both people in a relationship have hard working careers there can be loads of tension but these two seem to make it work.
Both athletes share a unique multicultural perspective. Lily was born in China and raised in Canada and the US. Alex is British-Thai.
They frequently share aspects of their Asian heritage with fans by trying local foods and traveling together in Thailand and China during the off-season
F1 WAG’s usually just get simplified to just that, but we have to remember that these women are girl boses and a total inspiration! For example Lily,
Played college golf at the University of Southern California before turning pro.
She won the 2019 LPGA Q-Series in outstanding fashion (finishing as the medalist after 8 consecutive under-par rounds).
Beyond golf, she is a major star in fashion, having recently been featured in Vogue Hong Kong.
I’m so happy for them as they got engaged in January of 2026!
